Well, there has been some in Manitowish Waters. According to the Wisconsin Department of Administration, The Town of Manitowish Waters’ population in 2008 is 703, up from the 646 year-around residents tallied in the 2000 census.
Some interesting facts:
Between the 1990 and 2000 census reports, the town’s population actually fell by 5 from 651 residents to 646.
According to the 2000 census, the town’s 646 residents lived in 312 housing units. However, the town contained 1,178 housing units, or 1.82 housing units per resident! (These statistics, of course, reflect the fact that a large proportion of the our housing units are owned by seasonal residents.)
I don’t have a figure for the number of housing units in the town in 2008, but I do know that there has been a lot of new construction since the year 2000, so I believe, that even with the growth in population, we are still close to two housing units per resident, and only about 25% of the housing units are occupied by folks who consider Manitowish Waters their legal residence.
