In the ongoing bike trail saga, the Bike Trail Committee’s town-appointed community members have resigned en-mass in protest of the town board’s lack of support for the committee’s recommendations and the recent vote to rescind the town’s grant application. This issue is far from over -- stay tuned.
Even sadder (to me) in a different way, the chair and a second member of the town’s Economic Development Committee have resigned. I believe that the Economic Development Committee has been inactive for some time, and I suppose that inactivity and the resignations reflect the near impossibility to achieve anything worthwhile in that arena.
The Changing Waves restaurant (on Hwy W, previously the Fireside Inn) closed permanently recently.
On a more positive note, the town is getting closer to obtaining DNR approval for a public fishing pier on Rest Lake at Koller Park.
And lastly, the Dairy Queen restaurant in Minocqua closed permanently on October 4th. The owners decided that they were not interested in making the investment in remodeling that corporate Dairy Queen is requiring of franchisees. That means no more Peanut Buster Parfaits for yours truly.
