It's winter. It's spring. It's winter again! Now it's spring again. Just Tuesday we had quite a little spring snowstorm that caused a fair amount of accumulation, but by this morning, Thursday, it was mostly gone. However, we still had a fairly large ice sheet on the lake this morning. It seems to me that Little Star Lake is usually the last lake to freeze and the last to give up all its ice. Last year the ice didn't all disappear until May 2nd. The lake has been opening up from the north side of the lake (the shallower side) for quite some time, and I have been waiting for a wind out of the south to push the sheet our way, as I knew it would, inevitably.
This morning it started to do just that, and in short order the ice sheet was piling up on the north side of the lake, pushing its way up onto the beach. With the ice being quite rotten, and the strong wind pushing waves against the sheet, one could see that the ice sheet's life span could now be measured in hours. The ice sheet covered a good amount of the lake when I left home, but not when I returned about 6:00.

Judging from marks in the sand, it appears that ice and snow got pushed a fair amount up onto the beach, along with the piece of driftwood that is sitting right on top of the sand -- obviously it hasn't been there all winter. I assume that the ice and snow melted quickly on the warmer sand.

Yeah, I know that it is not all that interesting, but one has to find amusement where ever possible this time of year.
Have a good one!
