In Manitowish Waters we received approximately 8 inches of rain in June, the majority of it in the latter half of the month, and it has been a real blessing. The reservoir (the Manitowish chain of lakes) does not appear to be quite full yet (as of today), but it is close to full and the channel and lake water levels are certainly sufficient ...

In the Northwoods we have fishing tournaments for anglers of all types -- amateurs, professionals, those with disabilities. The first several of these tournaments are underway as I write this, including the Third Annual Boulder Junction Walleye Tournament, held on five area lakes on June 5 and 6. Others upcoming:
June 12thBob ...

With the precipitation that we have received the last few days, the waters of the lake are finally kissing the outermost posts of our pier.
Only 3 feet to go! But I would say that a reasonably full reservoir by Memorial Day is highly unlikely.
The problem, of course, is the continuation of the drought that has afflicted northern ...

Have you ever watched the Discover Wisconsin television program? I have from time-to-time and now I actually have a real reason to -- the episode scheduled to air April 3rd features Manitowish Waters. The 30 minute program is titled "Manitowish Waters - We've Got It All" and will be broadcast locally at 6:30 P.M. on ...

Last year, in a similar weather phenomenon, the wind drove the whole ice ...

Last October the town board held a hearing to propose extending UDC inspection requirements to accessory buildings and garages over 200 square feet in size. ...

Last Tuesday the Manitowish Waters Town Board Of Supervisors held a public hearing on a proposal to extend Uniform Dwelling Code inspection requirements that presently apply to one and two family dwellings to accessory buildings and detached garages over 200 square feet. I felt this expansion of the ordinance was unwarranted and offered the ...

I have been quite busy the last several months - plus suffering from a bit of writer's block - so haven't been doing much in the way of writing, for this blog or otherwise. But I couldn't let the first snowfall pass without some kind of comment.
To be sure, it was just a light dusting of snow early this morning, but who is ready ...

You may have noticed that over the last 10 years or so that it appears that the water levels have been dropping in our northern Wisconsin lakes. It has become particularly noticeable in a number of seepage lakes (lakes that have no input or output of water from streams). It also has become apparent that for a number of reservoirs, such ...

I previously wrote about the change in the Fouth of July fireworks show location - be here before you know it! - and the town taking over management of the Little Star Lake Park. http://www.vincehoehn.com/blogs/vince_hoehn/archive/2009/05/11/community-information-new-this-year-in-manitowish-waters.aspx What else will be new or ...
